Project IV
Project IV: Multi-Genre Project
Genre Examples - 1. A kind of literary or artistic work
2. A style of expressing yourself in writing (syn: writing style, literary genre)
3. An expressive style of music (syn: music/musical genre, musical style)
4. A class of art (or artistic endeavor) having a characteristic form or technique
Overview: During this semester, we have worked in several different genres- including posters, e-mails, guides, conversations, letters, narratives, poetry, and the formal research paper we have just completed. This project asks you to understand the unique qualities of various genres, adapt to that style, and produce a piece of writing/art/music that reflects that style through words and images.
Assignment: The topic for this project has no limits. Well, there are some, but they are to make you select a subject that will inspire you creatively, not easily. The requirements are as follows: 1) You must be passionate about the subject; 2) You must know the information; and 3) You must be able to teach the topic through the project. Anything can be a subject for this project, including favorite movies, books, games, sports, food, as well as school, family, or holidays.
You will pick four genres to showcase that topic, and all four genres need to be unique. I encourage you to play to your strengths. I will not stop you from challenging yourself. Try something you've never done before and see how it works. You might surprise yourself.
One last requirement: Your final genres need to include text. I understand that there might not be much room for writing in some genres, but you must include original writing in it somehow. If you're stuck, ask me for ideas.
The Foreword to your project will be about one page, single spaced, but that will vary with every project. Use this space to introduce the topic, as well as why it is important to you and your life.
The Notes Section requires you to write one to two paragraphs about each genre you create. Explain why you chose the genre, how you created it, why it exemplifies the topic, and its importance in teaching the reader about your subject. Include any sources in MLA format here.
